Scenes from the Classroom #4

Boy A: Miss, do you know, Miss B doesn't know about the Magna Carta?
Me: Lots of people don't know about the Magna Carta - remember, we watched that clip of Tony Robinson at the Magna Carta fair in Egham and a lot of those people couldn't...
Boy A: No, but Miss, she'd never heard of it....in our Science lesson, she asked us what different types of magnet we could name* and I put my hand up and said the Magna Carta, and she said, "Oh, I've not heard of that one" and wrote it on the board, only she wrote it like "Magnet Carta" and I had to say, "Oh no Miss, it's just a little History joke...."
Me: Oh.
Me: {inwardly} (Rolling on floor laughing, high fiving Boy A, planning to set this class a homework that involves creating the best joke or pun about a historical thing)
Me: (smiles) Well, you know, a lot of people have never heard of it...

I think "Iron-clad self-control" should be on the person spec for teaching.

* It may have been different types of magnetism.
