Since this is my goal-setting, I decided to extend January to the end of February 1st, since it was a snow day and therefore allowed me to make significant progress on my home goals.
Work
1. Finish the lesson planning job (eight to go. I should be doing that instead of this, you know...I'm two weeks past my deadline).
Yes! All done.
2. Write the worksheets to go with the lesson plans (around 60 in total. That is six per day).
No. A really big fat no. I didn't even do one. I really need to get started; my deadline was January 30th. Shame, shame etc
3. Write the exam papers - 1, 3 and 4.
I have written most of 1. In my defence, 3 and 4 are not due until the end of February.
4. Book all my meeting accommodations for the summer.
Done. This was a February 1st done, because they didn't contract me until February 1st, but I did it straight away. The choice of hotel was still very poor.
5. Apply for the fellowship I've had my eye on.
Done. A full day before the deadline. Then they extended the deadline...oh well.
6. School marking - sixth form mocks, 12H, 12P and 13H.
I did 12P and 13H, and today (which I know is February 2nd) I managed half of 12H. I have to have the data in by Monday, so that really does force my hand somewhat.
Hmm, not bad, not bad.
Home
1. Get the floor man round to measure up the hall/stairs/landing for new flooring.
Done. Mr Z got him round on Wednesday night. I am awaiting the quote.
2. Choose new flooring and stair carpet.
Not done, but not my fault - I'm waiting for the quote before I decide what I want; and in any case, he said it would be best to get furniture built in before the floors are done so this may wait awhile. It doesn't get a colour. Null goal.
3. Put away the clothes I took on holiday.
Done.
4. Put away all the clothes over the banister.
Done. The wardrobe and drawers are groaning. I need to KonMarie my clothes.
5. Finish knitting Westbourne.
Done! A February 1st finish, but done nonetheless.
6. Wash the kitchen floor.
Not done. I decided against it, as I was so busy and anyway, it just gets dirty again.
7. Finish reading a book. I have about three that I'm halfway through - any one of those would be fine.
Done. Another February 1st finish, but I completed Salvage the Bones, a novel set around Hurricane Katrina, which was one of my gift books from the Mr B's fundraiser. It took me a while to get into it but then I found it compelling.
8. Do two exercise sessions apart from seeing Jenny.
I did one. I ran out of month to do a second.
Not too bad at all, overall. I only had 12 days but I managed more than half of what I wanted to achieve. I had the list written on my office whiteboard too, which made it very motivational. It's time for a new list.

January Goals
I know it is January 20th. It's very late for goal setting. However, I was reminiscing about years gone by when I used to make a little goal list at the start of each month and then review it at the end, and how motivating I found it. In my current mood of Getting Things Done, I have made the mental list I've been considering all year something solid.
I've split it, this month.
Work
1. Finish the lesson planning job (eight to go. I should be doing that instead of this, you know...I'm two weeks past my deadline).
2. Write the worksheets to go with the lesson plans (around 60 in total. That is six per day).
3. Write the exam papers - 1, 3 and 4.
4. Book all my meeting accommodations for the summer.
5. Apply for the fellowship I've had my eye on.
6. School marking - sixth form mocks, 12H, 12P and 13H. The official deadline for these isn't until the first week of Feb, which I find is not helpful. I want them done. I've had them for over a week now.

I am not sure I will get all 14 things done, but I'm going to give it a good go. Luckily I have a PGCE student now so I am about 10 lessons light in the timetable. The knock on effect of this should be considerable. Feeling determined. Grrrr!

Monthly Goals Roundup
Exercise at least 16 times (let's not get too carried away, since this is traditionally my month of hibernation, and I am away for two weekends. Again. And it's the 6th but I've only managed to go twice so far.)
I knew it was too high a target - I got to 13. Not bad, really.
Lose 10lbs. Again.
Sort of. At one point in the month (last Thursday) the scale did indeed register a loss of 10lbs since last month. This has not been maintained through a weekend away in the Smoke. But I think I am claiming a victory anyway.
Recruit a cleaner.
Yes! She's marvellous. Happy happy.
Clear out the wardrobe and organise The Tights.
No and sort of yes. I removed all The Tights from my drawer and put them in a plastic box next to it, and every day I take out a new pair to wear to work. If there is anything even slightly wrong with them, then they go in the bind at the end of the day. I appear to have enough tights to bin a pair every day until March, so this process will take a while.
Finish the blue jumper.
Yes and it's been getting a lot of wear.
Make a good start on knitting the Christmas wreath I have my eye on. I think I need to knit 66 leaves for it. Maybe I can have knitted half by the end of the month? We'll see.
Sort of - well, it's not a good start, really. I have knitted five.
Make some semblance of a start on Parpy Jo's black lace scarf that she requested on her birthday, in June.
Yes - I have knitted about six inches of this.
Create wider reading lists for all the units I'm teaching year 8 and 9 this year.
No. I only did one. Bad.
Not TOO bad overall. I can live with that.

October Goals Round Up
Go to the gym/a class/some exercise thing more than 15 times (thus beating September's total)
Yes. SIXTEEN! Still more than last month!
Lose 10lbs
I think I did. I have gained a little back this half term, but I'm pretty sure I got to 10.
Finish the Christmas jumper, aka "don't let the colourwork put you off"
Yes. It is finished. Looked great until I blocked it. Now looks like a festive tent.
Make a start on something else - gloves or socks or some kind of Christmassy thing. I have it in mind to knit the wreath from the latest Debbie Bliss magazine, and I want to make some more Yule trees
Yes - but none of those things. The blue jumper, instead, which I will hopefully have finished in time for a weekend FO post.
Do grandaughter duty, by phone or in person
No, I did not do this. Bad grandaughter.
Clear out the spare room
Sort of. I tidied it up. I found stuff I had unpacked from Lisbon, which I had forgotten about. It tends to be the room where I tip out my suitcase and then ignore the contents until I need them. There were still clothes from my summer holiday in the suitcase in there....but really, who needs summer holiday clothes in their real life? And who cares if I'm a slob? Really?
Visit Ikea for boxes and possible a sofa bed
Yes. I bought boxes, but no sofa bed, for the time being. Really I have to finish clearing out the spare room so there is space for the sofa bed, and so that I can arrange for someone to take our single bed away without being too embarrassed to let them in the room.
Something worky...hmm. The stuff from last month will defo have to be done this month so it feels like cheating to put it on there. Instead - plan the New Exciting Project I have conceived; find some sixth formers to run it and do the paperwork.
So, I did make a start on the New Exciting Plan but I need to chase up my collaborator who needs to get back to me before I can continue. Embarrassingly, I still haven't done the stuff from last month, and it's even more urgent now. I really did mean to do that in half term, too. Oh well. I'm greening it anyway because I did actually do the goal I had set myself.
A successful month, on the whole!

Goals for October
It felt like summer today, not October; but then as it started getting dark the air smelled like bonfires rather than barbecues and I could believe autumn was really here.
Here are my October goals:

September Goals Round up
Stick to my new intended eating plan (I decided I'd give the Paleo diet a try since the sugar-free Lent seemed to suit me so well) 85% of the time
I am going to say yes to this. I have found it quite easy to stick to and it doesn't feel like a chore to eat tonnes of lovely fresh veggies and meat and fish. Thanks to sticking to it for a month my tastes have already changed - yesterday I had a slice of bread and butter for lunch and the butter just tasted of salt. I'm definitely going to keep going with this one.
Use my gym membership 12 times
Well, no. I used my gym membership 7 times, which means I paid £5 per visit - not too bad. I did, however, visit other classes/saw my PT 8 times through the month, for 15 exercise sessions in total. Not too shabby considering how busy I have been. No wonder I haven't had much blogging time.
Get the new techs project baselining done
No. It has just been manic this term so far - I can't believe five weeks have passed, because I have achieved nothing. I blame the re-marks, of which there were 35% more than normal, and the app-writing. All my school time is spent marking and planning lessons so that I don't have to do any of that at home.
Start the new techs weekly sessions going
Yes - well, I did one so far. It was not very well attended. I hope next week's will go better.
Launch and recruit some techie kids for the project
No, but I did get as far as talking another staff member into helping me.
Finish knitting my big, squidgy, cream caramel cardigan
Yes - see last blog post for far too many pictures of it.
Start knitting the red Christmas jumper I have been planning for two years
Yes, this is about half done now. Oh, how I love bulky weight yarn.
Recruit a cleaner
I found a number. I rang and left a message. They didn't ring back. So - not totally my fault!
Reorganise the wardrobe so I can actually see my clothes.
Sort of - I have taken out a lot of summer clothes and dresses I only wear occasionally. I still need to make a visit to Ikea to buy some storage boxes so I can put things like fancy dress clothes and ski wear in the loft.
Blog at least 15 times. One down!
Only managed eight. Sadface. I had many good intentions. I am blaming the re-marks, again.

June Goals Round Up
I can't even bring myself to copy and paste the list in here. It's just too depressing. I am only posting this so you don't worry that I've dropped dead or something - no, I am still alive, just spectacularly busy. Today I reckon I have marked for about 8 hours. With hindsight, perhaps it was a bad idea to pick up monthly goals again when I have been away for two weekends of the four and up to my eyes in exam board duties when I do make it home. I fear Mr Z has forgotten what I look like.
Onto business. I HAVE finished the shawl - I owe a blog post.I need to take some good pictures first, though.
I have ALMOST finished the pink linen top - I need to do some kind of mystical crochet to it before I can pick up and knit around the bottom edge, so that I don't run out of yarn. Impressed that I've managed to get almost the whole top out of the one cone of linen.
I haven't blogged, or cast on, or cleaned, or tidied.
As for the last three worky things - they are in progress and nearly done.
I miss my life this month! Can't wait for July 13th, which I have pinpointed as the ultimate day off. No work, of any description, and nothing else to do. Bliss. Hopefully I will manage to blog though. I'll never make it to 127 posts this year if I put up such a pathetic showing every month.

Goals for June
It's been a while, but I always come back to it! June is going to be BUSY. I am excited but I need to be on my game.
I feel like there are more things that need adding to this list but it does seem to be getting very long and I might have to leave it at that. Also most of the other things are work related and I am not disposed to give them any more of my time than is necessary at this point.
- Finish knitting blue shawl of joy (8 border rows + 18 edging points left to work).
- Finish knitting pink linen camisole (just the back left to do).
- Cast on for new project of some description - possibly another summery top. I am considering the Nostalgia Top and wondering if I can use short rows to make it A-line....only one way to find out....
- Blog about Lisbon.
- Also blog about Edinburgh.
- Dust and tidy dressing table and side table.
- Get rid of/file magazines next to bed.
- Write action plan for school techie project.
- Plan and record online assembly for techie day at school at end of month.
- Plan session for history conference in July.

October Goals Round Up
Complete a run/walk effort of at least 7 miles
It's weird, running. I get jealous when I drive past people doing it. I really enjoy it when I'm out there. But can I stir myself to actually do it? No. The Sodbury Slog is a mere 10 days away and to say I am in a panic about it would be an understatement. I also have a little cough/wheeze thing going on which is not helping me to feel healthy.
Attend 8 classes at the leisure centre (got to make that membership work for me!)
No; I think I managed 4.
Begin knitting Christmas jumper for Parpy Jo's son
Well. I have begun to swatch.
Finish first sock, cast on for second sock
Yes! First sock done. The cast off was too tight and I dropped two stitches (?!) whilst doing it so I unpicked and bound off with the sewn method. Then I knitted the first lace repeat in Starbucks at Geneva airport this week. Sock knitting really is quite a quick thing if you put your mind to it. I expect everybody else knew this already.
Knit at least one of a pair of mittens that I can wear whilst driving (people seem baffled by my intention to drive in the thrummed mittens so perhaps I had better have something thinner)
Yes, with the chunky and luscious Maipo no less. I am nearly done with the second mitt. In the end I didn't have quite enough yarn to make a full mitten but decided, with hindsight, that they were better as fingerless mitts because they are going to be darn warm.
Plan and deliver a kick-arse set of assemblies based on David Rudisha being an inspiration
Yes, this was done. The first day I delivered it, I could not get the sound to work (it turns out the red light on the speakers is the off light, how ridiculous!) so I ended up commentating the entire race myself, which got me the most comments from staff and students as the week progressed.
Create a draft outline of what I'm delivering at that session I have to deliver on outstanding lessons next month, that is looming much too fast
Well, I greened this but actually I don't know if it's just that I should do so, because I put it off and put it off and finally, on October 31st when I could put it off no longer (handouts had to be with the company by November 2nd), I had an email from them saying numbers were too low for the course to be viable and it is cancelled. So I am greening it because it no longer needs to be done, which I know isn't the same as actually doing it, but the outcome is basically the same: it is no longer on my to-do list. Tenuous. I know.
Be absolutely amazing at skiing...I am off to Tignes in two and half weeks
So, as you'll have realised in my notes from Tignes, I only had two days in which to achieve this but actually I came away feeling quite positive. It was very icy on the first day and this caused a lot of complaining from the chalet staff, who did not care for the ice. I didn't really notice it. Since one of my action points was to be more confident on icy reds, I think I can safely say I have achieved that one.
Not bad! I suppose I should not be surprised that it is my exercise goals I failed to achieve this month, because autumn is typically the time when I crawl under the duvet into my armchair and don't come out for months at a time.

Goals for October
I really should make an effort to do these before the month is a week finished.

- Attend 8 classes at the leisure centre (got to make that membership work for me!)
- Begin knitting Christmas jumper for Parpy Jo's son
- Finish first sock, cast on for second sock
- Knit at least one of a pair of mittens that I can wear whilst driving (people seem baffled by my intention to drive in the thrummed mittens so perhaps I had better have something thinner)
- Plan and deliver a kick-arse set of assemblies based on David Rudisha being an inspiration
- Create a draft outline of what I'm delivering at that session I have to deliver on outstanding lessons next month, that is looming much too fast
- Be absolutely amazing at skiing...I am off to Tignes in two and half weeks

September Goals Round Up
Love how I thought I'd given myself an easy ride this month because I'd need an easy win by the end of it. The last part of that is at least true.
Finish crocheting the flowery cowl
I am allowing myself an orange on this because I *am* over half way. I have crocheted 22 motifs out of 38. The fact I cannot keep even tension is playing havoc with my (self-diagnosed) OCD. Everyone has told me it doesn't matter and will block out and won't notice. And I believe them. But it has stopped me from motoring through this at a rate of knots - well, that and the endless re-marks that have consumed my every waking moment.
Read all of the Ethic of Excellence book I have been meaning to read for over a year
I'm maybe a third of the way through. In desperation I started carrying it around with me in my handbag so it is now dog-eared, coffee stained and crinkly after a fight with a water bottle. I haven't had time.
Go on at least ten runs
I think I managed five but I am not even making this orange because this was just not good enough. I have a nine mile slog to complete in six weeks! The weird thing is that when I get out there and do it, I love it. But getting out there is so hard. Then on Friday it was the school sponsored walk and I have a minced left heel thanks to some horrendous blisters - I didn't even make it round the whole thing, much to my shame, but skipped the loop for the first time in years. But my heel is in bits. I don't know how I am going to run with it like that. Send healing vibes. I need to train!
Do some background reading for new A-level course
I got a guest pass to Bristol Uni library and also borrowed some books from my local library. I am not very far ahead of the students but I am far enough, and enjoying the course.
Go through the chest of drawers under the stairs and get rid of/remove to another storing place everything in it.
Nope. Not even a little bit. Not even one drawer.
Epic fail. Perhaps October's goals should involve sitting in my armchair watching TV, going to work and sleeping.
One thing I did do this month, though, which is a good thing, was to collect and put up my new curtains. I bought the fabric for them on knitting group weekend away to Shaftesbury in 2011 so it has taken me a while. They are blue and white batik and the fabric was labelled "Made in Ceylon" which I liked a lot. They make good curtains. I am pretty pleased I finally got round to it.

September Goals
With a new term and lots of new challenges I should not make this list too long.
Now going to bed to read the book...

Summer Holidays Goals Round Up
Six glorious weeks of nothingness are finally over. I have managed to drag out the final bits of work for my book right to the final day, which irks me as I wish I'd had to motivation to do it all in the first fortnight, but oh well. TBH, the holiday feels like it has gone of for months, rather than weeks, and I am quite ready to begin again.
How did I do?
1. Knit a rose every day for my planned work desk chair revamp.
No. This was going quite well for a while, but then I ran out of wound Cascade and then needed to concentrate on my mittens during the Olympics. Also, this end of the holiday I have finally learned to crochet and I have been crocheting flowers.

I only started today and it's fiddly but quite addictive. I have double this number of flowers already.
2. Knit something else during the Olympics.
Yes. I finished my second pair of thrummed mittens, medalling in WIPs Wrestling. Third time I've competed - first time I've actually finished!
3. Do some gardening.
Yes. Welll...sort of. I hired a gardener. I just had to come to terms with the fact that I did not want to spend my own time doing it.
4. Clean the house properly.
Yes, ready for my birthday party, but it is kind of needing doing again now. I'd like to wash the kitchen floor, too, which I didn't do last time.
5. Finally, FINALLY go to the tip.
YES!! And then got home, and found half a dozen things I should have taken.
6. Get a pedicure.
Yes. I have discovered shellac. My nails will never be the same.
7. Have a birthday party. With lots of cake. And Hendrick's gin.
Yes. I invented a new cocktail and we bought a gazebo that is the size of the whole lawn. Grumpy neighbour will be even grumpier now we can have barbecues all year round.
8. Get some Australia pictures printed and make a start on the photo album I have planned.
I have submitted them to Photobox and am waiting for them to arrive - so I am halfway.
9. Get to a total of 30 spinning classes (my NY Resolution was 50 in 2012 and I am currently on...16. Sigh.)
No, but I did get up to 24. I realised I had to do less spinning and more running. I'm not going to make 50 spinning classes in 2012.
10. Have a wardrobe clearout.
Yes. I got rid of two bin bags of clothes, and removed a bunch of others that don't currently fit to another storage space.
Not half bad!

June Goals Round Up
I'm a bit annoyed with June, if I'm honest. It raced away from me like a raindrop down a window pane (and I've seen enough of those lately to know what they look like...) so when I woke up on Sunday and realised I'd missed my deadline, I was most put out. Two of these things I had planned to do on Sunday, but now I haven't done them at all, in a fit of pique. Guess what's going on next month's list then....
Run some helpful after school sessions for the upcoming "Bring Your Own Device" day I have been planning, so that hopefully my colleagues will be mostly on board.
Yes. Nobody came to the first one. Two people asked for help on the second. The day was on Friday and it was a resounding success, I think. Waiting to see if there is any negative feedback, but I baked a massive amount of cake yesterday to say thank you so hopefully that will ward off any part time whingers.
Plan an assembly to get students on board also.
Yes, did this. Well, "plan" is a strong word. But I did the assemblies.
*Ignores*
Four out of seven...not too bad. It COULD have been 7, though, if June had 31 days in it and/or I had a better memory.
Cast on for a new garment.
No. I have swatched for three, and got a free pattern from Kristen Omdahl for leaving a nice comment on Ravelry about her scarf pattern, which is perfect for my new stash of Egyptian Cotton, not least because that was free also. I was going to cast this on on Sunday. But I didn't because I was sulking about it being July.
Cast on for a new accessory/baby item using something that was
stashed before 1/1/2012 - that 65km of yarn is not going to knit itself,
after all.
I did this, and I am about half way through. The usual garter stitch baby jumper in Rowan All Seasons Cotton. Will I ever knit another baby pattern? It seems unlikely.
Run some helpful after school sessions for the upcoming "Bring Your Own Device" day I have been planning, so that hopefully my colleagues will be mostly on board.
Plan an assembly to get students on board also.
Plan BYOD workshop for the History conference. I am starting to have
a panic in the pit of my stomach that I cannot shake - this is now less
than a month away, and marking starts in two weeks, and after that
there won't be any time to do anything, argh! And breathe.
I did this in brief a couple of weeks ago, and in detail yesterday. I am still very worried about it. I have decided this is because I really don't think it's going to be very good; and somebody else is running basically the same workshop, and he is much better than me. But I have resigned myself; and if it is poorly received then the worst they can do is not invite me back next year.
Something housey...hmm. Measure up for the shelves I want in the spare room.
Yes, another Sunday job. I have been meaning to do this for months and it really wouldn't take long.
*Ignores*
Get rid of the spare room bed. Anybody want a 2 foot 6 single bed? Free to a good home!
I got home from Asdal on Saturday night and realised I had forgotten to put a card up. I'll have to do it next time.Four out of seven...not too bad. It COULD have been 7, though, if June had 31 days in it and/or I had a better memory.

June Goals
Late, so late! How is it June 9th already?! I blame the Queen. She may have had an amazing Jubilee celebration that I very much enjoyed...celebrating, but I cannot get the hang of half term being in June. I feel like somebody has hoodwinked a week away from me.

May Goals Round Up
I'm all out of kilter with my days today. I was just trying to work out how I could subvert this into a Tuesday ten post; yet all day I have thought it was Thursday. Wrong on both counts! But whatever - it's only two days until half term and I only have four lessons to teach between now and then so it doesn't really matter.
Here's my goals round up and it's a good one!
Knit something from stash yarn - even if it's just a little thing.
I have cast on for a new accessory using some beautiful Colinette I received as a gift a while ago. It's a sort of neck, cowl, stole, shawl thing. I will pair it with the dichroic glass beads I bought at FibreFest in 2009. Double stashbust!
Sort through and re-organise stash and ensure it's all catalogued and photographed (I'm so geeky, I love doing this - I feel like it's cheating to put it on the list, tbh)
Yes, and it was enjoyable as I thought it would be, although I feel slightly overwhelmed by how much there is. Ravelry says it's 65km. But, on a positive note, I have my next five garments lined up and ready to go.
Visit the tip to get rid of some stuff.
Well, I didn't actually do this. But I intend to go next week. I keep putting it off because there's always a massive queue of cars and it smells bad. I did recycle all the cardboard this evening though, come to think of it.
Research and plan an activity using the iPods so that I can stop panicking about going to that conference in July and having nothing to say.
Sort of - I have done a few activities with the iPods and it is going quite well. I feel more confident about the conference but there is still a chunk of work to be done on my workshop. I am hoping to get some of that done in the next two days, and next week: definitely before marking starts on June 21st, anyway.
Finish rewrites on the book with good grace.
At least they were done! I might have rushed it a bit towards the end and they are coming back again for a second pass this week or next. I am a bit bored of it now, tbh. I also need to start work on the peripherals - the perfect answers to all the exam Qs, for example - so that I don't have to squeeze those into three weekends in term time. Little and often, as I keep reminding myself.
I am currently enjoying a trip back to my youth with this 90s Groove album I downloaded yesterday. It is like being a teenager again. I can almost relive the panic of my year 11s as their exams wash over them! Thank goodness all that's over.

Begin knitting a new garment.
Yes and it is nearly finished! Sort of. Ahoy, Sailor is all knitted and just waiting for some kind of collar/hood and the sleeves. I am stalled for the moment because I am trying to figure out how to pick up and knit a sailor collar instead of following the pattern directions. Goals for May
Feeling like starting this again.
ETA I started this list in April and didn't publish it, so I am just going with it. Six goals is quite enough, I think.
